ASHTANGA VS. ROCKET YOGA

If you think you are flying to the moon, you are well mistaken. Rocket Yoga is a relatively new yoga practice founded in 1989. Larry Schultz made yoga accessible to western yogis. While it can be a challenging process, it is about exploring your body and limitations in a way that is uniquely yours.

Here we cover everything you need to know about Rocket Yoga, from what it is, to a brief overview of its history and the benefits it can bring to your body and mind.

Rocket Yoga is an adaptation of the traditional Ashtanga yoga practice and ‘shock’ is simpler. Although it’s not for the faint of heart, it is a fast-paced practice with a unique flow that differs from any other yoga practice. It invites you to create your own interpretations of the classic asana poses and does not force you into the teacher’s poses. After all, every body is different.

There are similarities between the ashtanga and rocket yoga twists, bends, standing poses and seated poses. But when you struggle with a transition, the teacher, and in this case Sarah Sati, will work with you to make sure you can do it your way, however that may be. It is important to remember that rocket yoga should not be taken too seriously and is meant to be a fun process.

FLOW VS. ROCKET YOGA

Rocket yoga is a form of Power yoga. Although it is all about having fun, some of the poses are considered to be intense and have longer holds. You’ll focus on improving your strength and flexibility at your own pace. Vinyasa yoga is less strenuous on the body and focuses on the awareness of the breath guiding you to flow from pose to pose. In contrast, rocket yoga classes are all about teaching you to be aware of your body, how you move it, its strength and its level of flexibility.

BETTER BRAIN BODY RELATION

Practicing Rocket Yoga helps to clear our nerves and tissues through stretching and poses. Targeting nerve blockages and improve neurotransmissions between your muscles and nerves which promotes a better flow of impulses (or prana) from your body to your brain. Besides it will help you get your heart rate up which is great for your blood circulation, allowing more oxygen to pass through to your muscles and organs. Your heart is a muscle, just like any muscle the more you work it, the stronger it will get!
